Little Steps, Big Change: Reviving 3C Cancer Clubs in North Eastern Uganda (Soroti and Karamoja)

 
Overall Goal:
To strengthen the 3C program’s reach in Soroti and Karamoja by reactivating cancer clubs in schools and using student-led awareness to promote early detection and cancer education.
 
Specific Objectives:
  1. To revive and restructure 3C cancer clubs in 6 schools in Teso and Karamoja Region
  2. To train students, student leaders and patrons on childhood cancer signs, myths, stigma, and communication techniques.
  3. To conduct interactive, creative youth-led awareness activities including arts, drama, debates, and outreach.
  4. To reinforce peer-to-peer education by providing club toolkits and IEC materials 
  5. To promote community-wide awareness through student-led outreaches.
 
Key activities
  1.  Introductory meetings with school administrators.
  2.  Reactivation and induction of school-based 3C Cancer Clubs
  3.  One-day student and patron training workshops per school
  4.  Peer education sessions, arts-based awareness days, and talent showcases.
  5.  School-level awareness assemblies, debates, and competitions
  6.  Distribution of 3C club kits (handbooks, t-shirts, activity guides)
  7.  Cancer-themed outreach activities in nearby markets or local churches
  8.  Monitoring visits and regular support supervision by UCCF staff
 
Expected Outcomes
  1.   6 functional 3C Cancer Clubs re-established in Soroti and Karamoja
  2.   600+ students and teachers trained on childhood cancer awareness
  3.   Increased student-led discussions and reduced myths about cancer
  4.   Community-level awareness stimulated through student outreach
  5.   Sustainable student structures to continue cancer education throughout the    academic year
 
Monitoring and Evaluation
 
The UCCF and 3C Program team will conduct:
  1.   Baseline and end line knowledge assessments in each school
  2.   Periodic activity reports submitted by club patrons
  3.   Visual documentation (photos, testimonials, video snippets) 
  4.   Monthly review calls or visits to track progress and provide mentorship
  5.   Feedback from students and teachers to improve future programming
 
Sustainability
 
Each reactivated 3C club will be guided to:
  1.   Develop an annual plan of activities
  2.   Mentor new members each year to maintain club continuity
  3.   Engage local stakeholders (parents, health workers) in events
  4.   Remain connected to the national 3C network through UCCF
