Who we are

AFRON Oncology for Africa is an Italian Non Governmental Organization (NGO) committed to fight cancer in African countries.

Founded in 2010 by Medical Specialists from the National Cancer Institute “Regina Elena” in Rome (Italy), AFRON started its first intervention in Uganda, where it is currently performing, then extended its programs also to Mauritania (2013-2014) and to Rwanda (2017-2019).

For its engagement in the battle against cancer, AFRON received a Golden Jubilee Medal from the President of the Ugandan Republic in 2018 and was awarded by the President of the Italian Republic in 2019.

Our strategy

AFRON believes that everybody in the world should have the opportunity to prevent, fight and overcome cancer. The gap between cancer care in Western Countries and in Low-Middle- Income-Countries (LMIC) is still unacceptable, so AFRON pursued a strategy to improve the access to cancer care in African countries, focusing mainly on female and childhood cancer.
